My sister had some trouble getting her daughter health insurance coverage.  Her situation is not unique.  She became pregnant prior to getting married.  Her policy is a single policy that she pays for out of pocket because she is a visiting nurse.  Her now husband’s policy wouldn’t take a child on unless they were married.  She married prior to the baby being born, but because the dates were pretty close, they had to purchase a policy for her daughter and then her husband could add their daughter onto his policy.  To this day they don’t know why that was.  All they remember is obtain health insurance quote after quote trying to choose the best one.
