I wanted to get my kids started in golf at an early stage. Perhaps they would be budding Tiger Woods or more realistically they will get a passion for the sport. There are some great started sets for the young golfer. Make sure you also get a standing bag with a carry strat. This is important. You will need at least a metal driver, a fairway wood (make sure this includes a cover). Also look at getting a 7-iron, and of course a putter is necessary too. I would recomend that used clubs would be fine. Probably a smart choice. Make sure you measure the clubs accordingly - this is very important and should exactly fit your childs size. You will find specially designed clubs for beginners that feature light clubhead weights. Also make sure the clubs are made from stainless steel or die cast aluminum, because kids tend to leave the clubs outside to all the lements. Look for prices around the $100- mark for used US kids golf clubs.
