Since the inception of Broadband, internet communication has shown to have greatly improved speed wise and become far more reliable than the dial-up services offered in the past.

It basically is a broad (or wide) communication band or pipeline that allows much more information to pass through, in either direction.  When the transmission line is wider, more information can pass along it, enabling much higher quality of media and information to pass through.  Streaming video, gaming capabilities, internet phone, etc. are vastly improved through the use of broadband connections.  These newer types of service require transmission of huge amounts of data all at once.  Broadband enables you to be online all the time with no need for a clear phone line, because it does not even use one.
